Sculptra is a type of dermal filler made of poly-L-lactic acid that is used in cosmetic procedures to smooth fine lines and deep wrinkles. It works by stimulating collagen production in the skin. Sculptra can be used to reduce wrinkles, elevate recessed areas of skin, redefine or soften contours, and treat fat loss caused by HIV. The effects of Sculptra can last more than two years, but multiple injections may be needed to maintain results. Before the injection, a consultation with a healthcare provider is necessary to evaluate the patient's health, goals for the procedure, and potential risks. The injection is performed in an office visit, and after the procedure, normal activities can be resumed, with potential bruising or swelling expected to resolve within a few days.
